Student Success Statement: Karl G. Maeser

“ I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls--walls of stone ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground--there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.” - Karl G. Maeser

This quote means that it is important to stick to your word and never back away from it. If you give your word then you have to do what was asked of or people will lose trust in you. No one will want to trust you because you didn’t keep your word after promising to keep your word. If you give your word and do what is asked of you then people will always see you as trustworthy and honest. They will be able to believe in your word because of how you have been able to keep your word. This is basically what I understood from this quote by Karl G. Maeser.
