Student Success Statement: Dean Smith

" I wasn't trying to leave a legacy. I was trying to do what was right." - Dean Smith

This quote means that you don't even have to try to be great if you do what is right. If you do what is right everything will come naturally to you without you having to force it. You following the right pathway will eventually take you to amazing things. Success doesn't come easily but if you do what is right then it will be easy for you. This quote goes to show how choosing the right will take you to achieve greatness.

There are many examples of how choosing the right will take you to greatness. For example Dean Smith was just a coach that knew how to do what is right and how to show great sportsmanship. This lead him to beating the record for the most victories and becoming so successful. He even had a stadium built in his honor but he was so humble he felt that he didn't deserve it. This example shows how just doing what is right will take you to amazing things without you even trying.

Student Success Statement: Randy Pausch

" It's not about how you achieve your dreams. It's about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma ( destiny, fortune, good luck) will take care of itself. The dreams will come to you"- Randy Pausch

This quote means that the way you make your dreams come true isn't important but the way you lead your life is. You shouldn't worry about karma because that will happen when it happens. If you just lead life the right way then everything should fall in to place for you. If your so stuck on worrying the opportunities will just fly right by you without you even noticing. There should be nothing to worry about if you lead your life the right way.

There are many examples of how leading life the right way can prevent you from worrying about not accomplishing your dreams. For example, if you have always worked hard in school and are applying for colleges at the moment. You might worry about not getting accepted to any but in the end you get a lot of scholarships because you were always leading life the right way. Another example would be you never trying hard in school and applying for colleges. You end up worrying about not getting into college at all and in the end you get into some but those weren't really the colleges of your choice yet there is nothing you can do since you didn't lead life the right way.

Student Success Statement: Mr. C. S. Haymore

"Take responsibilities for your own body, mind and spirit, for your own physical, mental and spiritual well being"- Mr C. S. Haymore

This quote means that for you to stay balanced as a person you need to do well in all aspects. For you to take charge for your body you need to avoid drugs or getting tattoos in order to take care of it. For you to take charge of your mind you need to also avoid things like drugs so you can keep your mind healthy. For you to take charge of your spirit you need to stay positive so that not only you can be happy but others around you as well. That is basically my thoughts and what i understood from the quote above.

There are many examples of how you can take responsibilities for your well being. For example, if you go out with a group of friends and they offer you something your not so sure about. What you should do if say no so that you can take charge of your physical being and not mess it up. Another example would be you being very nervous for a test and not knowing what to do. You should think positive about the test in order to not stress which can also mess up your mental being. In conclusion, this is why it is important for you to take charge in your physical, mental and spiritual being.

LAUSD Student Services

There are many LAUSD services for students. Such services are for scholarships, college information, online courses, requirements for graduation or resources like where the nearest public library is located.

LAUSD made this website very useful for students to be able to use and get a lot out of it. It helps to be able to let students know where the nearest library is in order to complete a research paper. It also helps to be able to know what is required in order to graduate and to prepare students. With this website students are able to answer any questions they have. Not only that but it helps with bullying or internship information. It will come in handy when you need help in anything school related. I feel as if this website is under appreciated and should be promoted more to students. Many students probably don't know much about this website when it provides so much and can come in handy. If students knew more about this website they could probably become better students by just being able to have access to it.

Student Success Statement: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"Intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education."
  -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This quote means that you don't only have to be smart but be a good person as well to get far in life. In order to be successful you need to be able to have both. You can be the smartest person out there but have a bad character which will only lead you to a certain point where you won't be able to achieve any higher. Or you could be the smartest person out there and have a good character which will open may doors to success. That is basically what I understood from the quote above.

There are many examples of how it is important to be intelligent and have character. For example if you if you get a good score on a test but you cheated on it because you forgot to study. Yes, it will make you feel "smart" but if you have character you would tell the truth since it would be the right thing to do. This is why you have to keep in mind how important it is to not only have intelligence but character as well.

Student Success Statement: Richard L. Evans

"We need the courage to start and continue what we should do, and the courage to stop what we shouldn't do" - Richard L. Evans

This quote means that we should be able to have the courage to do what is right and continue it. We should also have the courage to stop what is wrong when we know it's not right. If you start and continue to do what is right then good will come your way and keep away the bad. If you stop what is wrong then all you will be left with is good. Another big part of this is having courage without it you won't be able to start, continue or stop anything. This is basically what this quote is trying to get across to you.

There are many examples of how you need courage to start, continue or stop anything. For example you are being bullied by a another classmate so in order for you to be able to put a stop to it you need to have courage. With this courage you are able to talk to an adult about it and they provide you the help you need. Another example would be you being bullied by a classmate but you not being able to have the courage to put a stop to it and it getting worse. These are just a couple of the many examples of how important it is to have courage.

Student Success Statement: Paul Hatch

"When you tell one lie, it leads to another."- Paul Hatch

This quote means the once you begin to lie you won't be able to stop it will become a habit. You will be use to lying that you will be doing it all the time. It's not that easy though because you will still feel guilty and it will always hold you back. As your lies keep piling up it will eventually catch up to you and will bring consequences. This is basically what this quote is trying to get across to you. There are many examples of how one lie leads to another. For example, If you went somewhere without your parents permission and you lie to them you have to make up a whole story to go with your lie and sometimes you may even bring in people that aren't part of it. another example would of been you never going any where without your parents permission this helping you to never have to lie.

Winter Break

In the beginning of Winter Break I didn't do much but stay home and sleep. On Christmas Eve all we did was go to my grandparent's house and celebrate there with all my family. We were there eatingf tamales and other foods that were prepared for dinner. We For Christmas all I got was a black polaroid, sweaters, new shoes, and money. The rest of the week went the same just staying home and sleeping. Then On New Years Eve we went to my grandparent's house again to celebrate there with all my family. We ate pozole and desserts that were brought like strawberries and creme, cake, or cheesecake. The rest of the break was spent the same as before until we went to downtown to eat at a buffet called Clifton's with all my family. On the final Friday of the break I ended up going to downtown with some friends on the metro. We went to go eat at a place called Syrup's and to a store called The Last Bookstore. We just walked around downtown and took many pictures. Finally on the last Sunday I just began having my fifteen practice where we were taught how to dance the waltz. In conclusion, I had lots of fun this Winter Break with family and friends.
