Student Success Statement : Sophocles

“I would prefer even to fail with honor, than win by cheating.” - Sophocles
This quote means that it is better to fail knowing you tried your best the right way then to win knowing you cheated to get where you are. If you fail with honor then you won’t feel guilty and you'll feel good about yourself. You will feel good because you know you have chosen the right and that is more important than winning. If you win by cheating then you will feel guilty and you'll feel bad about yourself. You'll feel bad about yourself because you know you have chosen the wrong to get where you are and this is not the way you should be winning. This is why it is important to not cheat and just fail with honor.

There are many examples of how it is better to fail with honor than to win by cheating. For example, if did not study for a test you're taking but the person right next to you did so you decide to cheat. This can end badly by you being caught and getting grounded for deciding to “win” by cheating. This could all be avoided by you trying your best even if you won’t get a good score. You won’t have to face any consequences for choosing the right and it is just the honorable thing to do. This is basically what I understood from this quote by Sophocles.

Student Success Statement: George Mitchell

“Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”- George Mitchell

This quote means that no matter how much you think something as simple as cheating can not affect, you it always will. If you never cheat then you are choosing the right and are going to be led to success. If you cheat then you are choosing the wrong and will not be led down the right path. When you cheat you will eventually have to face the consequences and will always be feeling guilty. It is very important to stay away from cheating at all cost in order to stay on the right path.

There are many examples of how cheating can affect you in the long run. For example, if you cheat on a test you think it won’t affect you just because you didn’t get caught but that is not true. You can not always rely on cheating, what are you suppose to do when you are unable to cheat and are left on your own to figure it out? Well that is when your true colors will show and you will be unable to stop it. Another example would be you cheating in a competition and you getting caught. No one will look at you the same afterwards because they will always think back to when you made a simple mistake. This is basically what I understood from this quote by George Mitchell.

Student Success Statement: Dale Murphy

"I won't cheat"-Dale Murphy
This quote means that I won’t cheat because cheating is very wrong and it can lead you down the wrong path. If you don’t cheat ever you will be choosing the right and this will lead you to success. You will not ever have to feel guilty and worried about the consequences if you choose the right and avoid cheating. If you do cheat you will feel guilty and it will lead you to worse things than cheating. It is important to avoid cheating it will help you later on in the future to not cheat.

There are many examples of how cheating can affect your life. For example, you are caught cheating at a competition and from then on no one feels able to trust you. This will affect you because people won’t look at you the same way as before because of a simple mistake. Another example would be you cheating on a test and you never getting caught. This can also affect you because you will be so use to cheating you will do it all the time and not be able to stop yourself from this. This is basically what I understood from this quote by Dale Murphy.
